Thoughts on Personal Growth and Development....
Many studies have concluded that personal development is directly linked to achieving high levels of success in life, family, and business. Successful people learn to prioritize personal growth and development. They possess an understanding that their quality of life, relationships, or business will never outgrow their thinking. They are willing to put their time, money, and resources where their potential is.
Jim Rohn asserted, “If you work hard at your job you can make a living, but if you work hard on yourself you can make a fortune.” Making a fortune is not always the goal. I know it is not mine. But how about reaching your full potential, or becoming the person you are intended to be? Or living a fuller life? The requirements are the same. You must grow.
Based on my experience as a Certified Coach/Speaker/Trainer, I believe that most people carry forward a childhood reality deep into their adult lives that is no longer valid. As children we grew each year becoming taller, stronger, and smarter simply with time. As adults we are not afforded that same luxury, yet many still approach personal growth and development with this false belief. That they will continue growing and developing simply with time.
Unfortunately this belief causes many to fall short of reaching their full potential in life, not achieving the deep desires of their heart. As world renowned coach Christian Simpson says, “Life doesn’t give you what you want, it gives you who you are.”
Growth always comes from a process.
Have you ever read a great book, or attended a powerful seminar or workshop, only to find that a few weeks down the road nothing had changed? I’ve experienced this personally more time than I’d like to admit.
So how do you begin the process of personal growth and development? Follow these simple steps:
-Determine how much time, money, and resources you are willing to invest
-Seek guidance - of course I'm here to help!
-Surround yourself with other people who are on a similar journey
-Be patient, this is a lifelong process, growth doesn’t happen overnight
-Enjoy the process!
Use the questions below to help bring clarity to the 'why' of your growth journey:
Are you just interested in, or committed to beginning your personal growth/development journey?
Do you even know where or how to begin?
What would it mean to you if you were to step into a greater dimension of your purpose?
What would the impact be on you, and to those around you if you became a better person and leader?
Contact me today and let's get started on your personal growth journey. It is my pleasure to serve you.
I spent many years under the assumption that I was being personally developed, only to realize that I was really enhancing skills to perform at a higher level in my current role or a future role that I may hold.
It's not all bad! I learned many skills that assisted with my immediate success, but I had to face the reality that little was done to address me.....who I was as a person/leader at that moment, and connecting me to my future goals.
I call this 'positional growth'. Positional growth is focused on building skills and abilities to improve or enhance performance for a specific role/position.
That doesn't sound so bad right? Well, if your only goal is to improve your positional skills its not.
But in my case, and I believe for many others, I had and still have a strong desire to grow and develop as a person, I want to be a better leader tomorrow than I am today.
I can speak from experience that engaging in personal growth will do just that.
Abraham Maslow said, "You will either step forward into growth, or backwards into safety."
What will the impact be on you, and to those around you, if you continue to step backwards into safety?
We understand that change is not always easy....
